    Topic: Understanding Unemployment Insurance

    Jim Martin, Director of Unemployment Insurance Program for MHA Solutions and formerly as Asst Chief of Benefits Payments with the MS Employment Security Commission.

    Jim has been employed by MHA Solutions, as Director of the Unemployment Insurance Program for 16 years.  Prior to joining MHA Solutions, he was employed with the Mississippi Employment Security Commission for 12 years. During his tenure with this agency, he worked in the positions of Employment Interviewer, Supervising Interviewer, Program Specialist, Chief Technical Services, and lastly as Asst. Chief of the Benefit Payments Department. This is the department where all initial determinations are made on claimant’s eligibility to receive benefits.  Prior to working with MESC, he was employed in restaurant management with Waffle House for 3 years, where he was last employed as a District Manager.

    He is a 1982 graduate of Troy State University in Troy, Alabama.  He is a member of the International Association of Workforce Professionals, Capital Area Human Resource Association, UWC (Strategic Services on Unemployment & Workers’ Compensation), AHAUCG (Allied Hospital Association Unemployment Compensation Group), and MHA Society for Human Resource Administration. 

    He is a former President of the Vicksburg High School Band Booster Association.  He and his wife are former State Coordinators for the Mississippi Methodist Happening. This is a Christian youth leadership/renewal movement. He is a former conference youth coordinator for the Vicksburg/West Jackson district of the Mississippi United Methodist Church. He held the positions of President of Men’s Club, Chairman of Administrative Council on Ministries, and Lay Leader while attending Porters Chapel UMC in Vicksburg.

    He has been married to the former Linda Oakes for 28 years, and they have 1 daughter, Amy.  They live in Vicksburg, and attend Hawkins UMC, where he has been involved with several different committees.
