More about Ricky Johnson
Ricky Johnson, a five-year United States Marine Corps veteran, three-time convicted felon
(methamphetamine and DWI), and a father who has endured the unimaginable loss of
his son to suicide, Ricky speaks with honesty, transparency, and deep respect. His
presentations address the consequences of choices, sexual trauma, substance use,
perseverance, and suicide awareness—all aimed at inspiring audiences and offering the
gift of hope that transformed his life.
Since beginning his full-time speaking career, Ricky has delivered nearly 500
presentations at over 400 venues, including jails, prisons, schools, churches, law
enforcement agencies, military installations, treatment centers, and conferences.
Sessions typically run 30–60 minutes and include time for audience dialogue, where the
most powerful connections often occur.
Ricky brings a unique blend of lived experience, military service, and professional
training to every event. He is trained in Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP), QPR
Suicide Prevention, and Trauma-Informed Care, and is certified in Critical Time
Intervention. He has also served as a North Carolina Certified Peer Support Specialist
(Veteran designation) and as a mentor with the Buncombe County Veterans Treatment
Court team.
Throughout his career, Ricky has received numerous honors, including the 2019 NC
Tides “Empowering Hope Award”, the 2022 Suicide Prevention Partner of the Year
from Off-Road Outreach, and, in 2025, an appointment to the Board of the Mental
Health Association of South Mississippi.
Every time Ricky speaks, his goal is to connect, inspire, and equip audiences with
tools and hope they can carry forward.
