The Learning Objectives will be geared towards understanding legal requirements associated with FMLA, ADA, and other federal, state and local laws relating to leave and accommodations. Also reviewing best practices for managing leaves and accommodations.

Biased, Who Me? - Understanding Biases in the Workplace

There are two types of biases; Conscious bias (also known as explicit bias) and Unconsicious bias (also known as implicit bias).

It is important to note that biases, conscious or unconscious, are not limited to ethnicity and race. This session will focus on unconscious implicit bias. We all have them, the goals are to encourage people to change behavior by developing and practicing new people skills and use a process to make a stronger inclusive workplace.​

Susan Fahey Desmond is not only an Attorney at Law but also serves as the Government Affairs Director for the Gulf Coast Human Resource Association.

She is a Principal in the New Orleans, Louisiana office of Jackson Lewis P.C., and maintains an active practice in both Louisiana and Mississippi, specializing in the areas of labor and employment and civil litigation, including FMLA, discrimination claims, and EEOC charges.

Eddi Daniel Abdulhaqq will providing an overview of the federal employment anti-discrimination laws the EEOC enforces (Title VII, ADEA, EPA, ADA/ADAAA, GINA); To explain the reasons employers need to know and adhere to the law and how a violation of a federal law may adversely affect an employer’s business; To discuss how a charge is investigated using theories of discrimination and elements of proof.
